Building a Website with AI: From Idea to Deployment

On 8 September, I had the opportunity to conduct a hands-on session at Digiperform’s Noida Centre on how AI can be used to design and build websites.
Rather than looking at website development only as coding, we explored the complete process, from a simple idea to a website ready to go live.
One of the key points we discussed was:
A good website starts before the first line of code.
- We began with the fundamentals:
- What problem are we solving?
- Who is the website for?
- What should the visitor do?
- Which pages and features are actually required?
From there, we moved through requirements, research, user flow and structure before starting the design process.
Then came wireframing.
We focused on deciding the structure of a page before thinking about colours, images and visual effects. We looked at navigation, content hierarchy, the visitor journey, and how the website should work across desktop and mobile.
Once the structure was clear, we moved into UI and UX design.
We covered design systems, typography, colours, spacing, grids, reusable components, interactions and clickable prototypes.
One important principle was:
Use AI to improve a design, not to blindly invent one.
AI can help review spacing, contrast and hierarchy, but the final design decisions still need human judgment.
From there, we moved into development.
We looked at how to translate a design into a working website by building it section by section, creating reusable components, adding real content, checking responsive behaviour and connecting forms and APIs. We also covered testing and deployment.
We then explored the technology stack behind the workflow:
- Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Next.js and Tailwind CSS
- Backend & Data: Node.js, Express.js, APIs, MongoDB and PostgreSQL
- AI & Components: Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, shadcn/ui and 21stdev
- Deployment: GitHub, Vercel and Render
I also shared practical prompt sheets for participants to continue experimenting after the session.
The Idea to Live Website sheet covers wireframing, design systems, building, responsive testing, polishing and shipping a website.
The Backend & Features sheet covers APIs, database structure, authentication, validation, security, testing and deployment.
The workflow to remember:
Plan → Wireframe → Design → Build → Test → Deploy
AI can make each stage faster, but understanding what you are building and why still matters.

If you attended the session, feel free to share what you built or experimented with.
And if you have any doubts or questions about AI, website design, development or the prompts, feel free to ask in the comments.
A big thank you to Digiperform for the opportunity to share, build, and experiment with AI together.
