Why do we not have companies like Anthropic or OpenAI in India?

What is stopping us from building companies like Anthropic and OpenAI in India? For that matter anything that requires deep tech and research?

Have we only become the execution branch for the world and will always be so? Or will just be copying ideas from the West and tailoring it to the Indian needs?

Do you think we can build one? I know it is a longer route to take at this point. If we want to build one, what do you think will be needed? Or what is missing that is stopping us from building one?

I am sure intelligence and brain power will not be an issue.

Yes. I would add the Tier-2/Tier-3 city ecosystem gap because it makes your comment more grounded and less like a generic national-level observation.

I really appreciate this thought. I don’t believe intelligence or talent is the constraint. The bigger challenge, in my view, is building the ecosystem around deep-tech research.
