If you’ve started your own business, there comes a day when you realize you can’t carry everything alone.

That’s when the question shows up: “Should I bring someone on? But I don’t have the budget.”

You’re not alone in this. Most founders get stuck right here.

One thing that helps: make your first hire for your biggest problem, not for your to-do list.

The product is ready, but nobody knows about it? You need a marketer.

People are interested, but the product isn’t finished? You need a developer.

Pick one problem, then look for the person who can solve it.

You don’t need a recruiter to find them. Your own contacts, founder groups, colleges, and online communities are where the best people often turn up.

Look at their work more than their resume. Give them one small, real question and see how they think. Just don’t ask for big work for free.

Be straight about pay. Say what you can afford, and don’t promise anything you can’t deliver. People remember honesty.

If full-time isn’t possible yet, start with a part-timer or a freelancer. Write down the work, the pay, and the timeline before you begin.

Once you find someone, trust them. Share the goal, give them the tools, and talk once a week. Then let them do the job.

That’s it. Problem first, hire second.
